Maria Pekli inducted into International Judo Hall Of Fame


We are so excited and proud that our club owner and judo foundation coach Maria Pekli has been inducted into the International Judo Hall Of Fame. She was invited to attend the event is Astana, Kazakhstan and was Inducted along with 8 other Judo legends at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

Maria is a Five-time Olympian and she made history in 2000 when she became the first Australian woman to win an Olympic judo medal since women’s judo officially joined the Olympic program in 1992, Maria won an Olympic bronze medal in Sydney and also won a Commonwealth Games gold in Manchester in 2002.

In 2008 Maria joined Cuba’s Driulys Gonzalez and Japan’s Tani (née Tamura) Ryoko as the first female judoka to compete at five Olympic Games. In 2011, Maria a winner of seven national titles in a row, was also awarded Lifetime Membership of Judo Australia for her contribution to the sport. We are so proud and lucky to have such a Judo Legend as our Judo Coach.
